"The World Is Flat: A Brief History of the Twenty-first Century" by Thomas L. Friedman has nothing to do with medicine, but it is one I have recommended to many of my patients. I think it should be required reading for all people between the ages of 18-25. It offers meaningful insight on the kind of world they will be living in. A world where we will have direct competition with well educated people from China and India. Friedman is an excellent writer, he has won a Pulizer Prize for his writing and writes weekly columns for the New York Times.
